Skills and Experience

• ·        The position requires a high degree of decision making ability and self sufficiency.    The automation / electrical engineer is expected to have experience in industrial control systems hardware / software and field instrumentation practices as related to the food and beverage industry. In addition he / she should have a working knowledge of project life cycle deliverables, contract & schedule.

   

  ·        Is required to be commercially / contractually aware and able to take responsibility for execution of the assigned scope of work with in the constraints of schedule, budget and specification.

   

  ·        Typically a graduate in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or Food Technology.

   

  ·        Control Structures

  ·        Programming (PLC and HMI)

  ·         Traceability (SAP, SQL)

  ·         Process Simulation

  ·         Communication Nets 

   

  ·         Minimum 3 years experience in a similar engineering role.

   

  ·        Pro-activity, personal drive, decisiveness, commercial / business acumen, communication skills, excellent teamwork skills, organizational competency and the ability to prioritize.

  WORK ENVIRONMENT

   

  ·        The position involves travelling, staying on site, and working over week-ends at times.

  On site work means the presence of heavy equipment, smoke, dust and noise, potentially.

JOB PURPOSE

 

·        To define and document physical and functional process control system requirements and to participate in design for construction, software development and commissioning of the system to ensure successful implementation

 

·       To act as a key member of project engineering teams supporting the Project Manager in the successful and timely completion of assigned projects.

 

·       Support the Project manager in maintaining or increasing profitability of contracts through efficient automation engineering design & execution, while simultaneously achieving customer satisfaction

 

 

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTIBILITIES

 

 

·       Participates in all phases of a project from initial customer meetings though pre-award sales     support, proposal generation, engineering, commissioning and start up.    As assigned by the     Project / Proposal Manager is responsible for automation / electrical aspects of the project /     proposal, specifying technical solutions and equipment which meet customer expectations /     specifications within the time and budget constraints of the contract.    ·     Expected to be familiar with the phases, activities and deliverables associated with the project life     cycle. Is required to be familiar with the customer specifications and contract.   ·       Responsible for all aspects of automation / electrical engineering. Typically involving the following activities :   o   Assist in Completion of Process and Instrumentation drawings and Functional Descriptions o   Develop control system I/O device listing for use in panel construction, software reference, and final documentation. o   Preparation of cost and schedule estimates for proposals or in support of change order submissions for projects.  o   Generate specifications for control system hardware, field instrumentation, electrical systems & components, panels and software packages. o     Develop system functional design specification for customer approval o   Design, implement, test, document and commission control system hardware and application software according to specifications.       ·        Collaborates / communicates effectively with other engineering communities / personnel to maximize reuse of engineering, adherence to design standards and optimization of engineering designs to meet customer specifications within project budgets. Is proactive in anticipating technical, schedule, execution or commercial problems and exercises priority judgments to meet project commitments.   ·         Actively supports the Project Manger in identification and justification of automation / electrical scope changes and assists in preparation of subsequent cost / schedule impact estimates and change orders to be submitted to the customer.   ·         Works with sales and engineering management to determine customer needs and ensure the applicability of designs & solutions. Participates in the review and refinement of engineering solutions recommending ideas, enhancements, cost reductions, and performance improvements.   ·         Responsible for documenting & keeping accurate records of customer meetings, discussions and correspondence as well as maintaining well organized technical files. As assigned by the Project Manager is responsible for project document control - ie generating outgoing deliverables, document transmittals, version control, tracking incoming customer approvals, filing etc   ·       Provides technical support to resolve customer problems related to automation equipment, / system performance and process trouble shooting.   ·        Plans and implements tasks such as Automation / Electrical Factory (FAT) and Site (SAT) test      procedures and commissioning plans.   Develops systematic approach to commissioning and      customer site acceptance plans based on contractual requirements.   ·         As assigned by the Project Manager may assist Procurement in automation / electrical vendor technical bid evaluation, vendor selection and management.   ·         May be assigned as Project Manager on small automation or electrical projects.
