Job Description
Job Summary:
Purchase and manage raw materials and packaging supplies inventories. Negotiate best value purchasing arrangements with vendors. Manage delivery and flow of ingredients by selecting incoming transportation vendors and monitor performance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Purchasing
- Schedules all raw material deliveries.
- Compiles and manages information related to scheduling and inventory; reports data as required to Production Supervisor, Shipping and Warehouse Supervisor and management.
- Sourcing, both domestic and international
- Contract negotiations with suppliers
- Develop multiple sources for each item purchased and whenever possible encourage price bidding among vendors to achieve lowest price and highest quality for the company
- Solicit promotions, discounts from all suppliers and payment terms favorable to the company
- Incorporate product quality specifications into all purchase orders to maintain high company quality standards
- Coordination of supplier certification program
- Evaluate vendors/suppliers for their on-time performance
- Inform vendors of unacceptable goods and obtain credit for returned items
- Material management and cost reduction
- Study market prices, trends and technical developments. Advise management, production and sales of significant market information.
Inventory Control
- Audit computer system for proper receipt of goods to inventory
- Verify movement of inventory through cycle and spot counting
- Generate reports to accurately reflect inventory status and analyze discrepancies
- Provide insight and analysis to effectively manage inventory levels
- Conduct annual inventory audits
- Freight Management
- Ensure timely shipment and delivery of materials needed for production
- Track shipment status and expedite as needed to support production
- Ensure accurate cost of items purchased
- File any necessary freight claims with vendors
Financial
- Issue purchase orders for good and services
- Post receipt of incoming materials
- Reconcile invoices to purchase orders and post to accounts payable
- Monitor and analyze purchases
- Perform other duties as assigned
