- The General Manager (GM) is accountable for the operational performance of their Pret shop. They are responsible for building and leading a proud and professional team that adheres to all Pret standards. They support their team to deliver a wonderful customer experience, creating a relaxed, comfortable environment for all of our eat-in customers, and fast, efficient service for those wanting to take-out. They challenge, motivate, coach and prepare their team for graduation. They take pride in catching people doing things right. They balance daily operational demands with strategic planning in line with the Pret Recipe. They know when to step back and allow their management team to flourish.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Building a Team
To build a capable, confident management team and develop them to manage a great shop.
To continually challenge and support all AMs and Leaders to unlock their personal potential in their individual roles.
To build a robust shop family tree through proactive succession planning, development and recruitment ensuring consistency for key roles.
To create an appropriate rota in line with the business needs.
To have the confidence to delegate and the diligence to follow up on all tasks related to each management or leadership role.
To ensure every member of the shop team have individual development plans, communicated through Start, Stop, and Continues.
To effectively communicate all relevant information to the management and shop team so that it is understood and implemented.
To have a communications plan in place for the shop including well-run, planned management meetings, 121s, feedback appraisals, team briefs and shop team meetings.
To complete regular performance reviews with the management team on their key responsibilities.
To complete and sign off in-depth graduations for own TMs to Leader to Pret standards.
To own the success or failure of all graduations in their shop by making informed, fair decisions on pass and fail on each candidate.
Outstanding and engaging customer service
To ensure the management team is continually focused on fulfilling the Amazing Service requirements as identified in their job description.
To constantly view the shop from a customer perspective and challenge the key leaders to do the same.
To work with the team to achieve perfect mystery shopper scores every week.
Delicious Food & Drink
To ensure the management team is continually focused on fulfilling the Delicious Food and Drink requirements as identified in their job description.
To work with the management team to be passionate and knowledgeable about the quality and freshness of our MTS food, coffee and BTS products.
To hold regular FoH and kitchen reviews to establish current performance and facilitate improvements as and when necessary.
Cleanliness and Health & Safety
To ensure the management team is continually focused on fulfilling the Well Loved Shop requirements as identified in their job description.
To own the shop’s maintenance program; ensuring all calls are logged into Service Channel and followed up on.
To ensure that all Health & Safety and Food Safety practices adhere to the current legislation and Pret standards.
Knowing Your Business and Taking Ownership
To ensure the management team is continually focused on fulfilling the Shop Profitability requirements as identified in their job description.
To fully understand your shop’s operating model and ensure your shop is complying with the model principles.
To continually monitor and review shop performance and facilitate improvements.
Maximizing Opportunities
To fully understand your annual sales profile; plan and forecast to maximise sales opportunities.
To forward plan for peak trading periods, events and seasonal changes.
To benchmark against similar, high-performing shops in order to build a network with other GMs and share best practice.
To keep abreast of competitors’ initiatives and trading performance. Develop plans to counter their impact.
To have a strategic sales growth plan in place (utilising marketing initiatives where appropriate) to drive business.
To ensure that the delivery team is continually focussed on fulfilling the Growing Sales section requirements as identified in their job description.
To forecast labour management intelligently to drive sales.
To plan holidays and effectively manage the rota to maximise business potential.
