Your Background Should Include:
• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
• At least five years QC/QA experience in the food industry.
• Complete working knowledge of HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and USDA, FDA and all other applicable State and Local health and food safety codes.
• History of excellent independent audit results including Silkier, AIB, customers.
• Strong sensory, recipe and alternative raw material evaluation skills and experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word & Power Point).
• Examples of maximizing product reliability and cost minimization. Highly Desired, but not Required:
• Love of Gourmet quality specialty foods,
• SQF2000 certified practitioner, or willingness to become certified.
• Familiarity with Quality Expectations and Processes for major food retailers, including Whole Foods, Safeway, Kroger, HEB and Wal-Mart.
• Speak & write fluent Spanish is a big plus

SENIOR QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER
Specialty Canning Operation
San Marcos/ S. Austin Area
Based at our corporate headquarters, this is a hands-on management position reporting to the President and overseeing the implementation and maintenance of all Food Safety and Quality Assurance processes. In addition, the ideal candidate will be a key member of the R&D product development team.
Responsibilities will include:
• Lead and manage with a systemic and proactive approach to both Food Safety and Quality Assurance, including HACCP, SQF and other related applicable food safety guidelines and regulations.
• Lead integration of the current quality assurance and food safety processes into a comprehensive and well functioning quality system minimizing product quality, food safety, and the environmental risks. This includes regulatory compliance, documentation & review process; product quality specifications, testing & audits; standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices; BOM specification & incoming inspections; product identification trace, retention & control documentation; building & equipment maintenance.
• Work closely with the Production Manager in statistical analysis of operations and investigation of any process failures (including consumer complaint resolution); implement resolutions, including development of standards, and/or audit programs.
• Drive continuous improvement activities through root cause analysis of all quality related issues and implement solutions that reduce risk of product failure.
• Assist in reviewing vendor raw material, product specifications, ingredient / product receipt, testing, handling, storage, conversion and tracking.
• Coordinate customer bench-top product development efforts; create BOM and finished product spec sheets, recipes, production process documentation.
• Supervised team of 3 QA techs (hire/fire, train, manage and audit).
• Conduct shelf life studies, evaluate product stability and recommend product shelf life.
