Overview
The Martel Plant Technical Manager (PTM) is responsible for providing the leadership and technical expertise to prioritize and deliver results for the plant and the bakeries and foodservice businesses it supports. Reporting to this position are both the Maintenance and Engineering Departments. The direct reports include: project, system and controls engineers, maintenance Team Leader III, and college rotational program employee. The PTM will have departmental oversight for employee and labor relations for the 18 employees in maintenance trades. The Martel PTM is a vital member of the Plant Leadership Team and will have specific responsibilities for site strategies, such as Continuous Improvement.

The Martel Plant produces dry mixes for a variety of wholesale and food service customers, as well as some internal General Mills plants. The Martel Plant has approximately 200 employees. Hourly team members are part of the BCTGM labor union.

Accountabilities:

Leadership
- Provide leadership to drive results (cost, system performance, quality, safety, other key results)
- Development of site strategic plan for technical staffing, capital investment, general competencies, and system/technology improvements
- Hiring, coaching, mentoring, and development of plant technical resources
- Lead organizational effectiveness strategies within the maintenance organization
- World class system engineering support for process improvements, waste elimination, throughput improvements, training, plant tests and trials
- Accountability for management of external technical relationships with A/E firms, contractors, and equipment vendors
- Provide technical leadership and for site compliance with EPA and OSHA requirements in concert with designated functional experts
- Provide site leadership to achieve maximization/optimization of capital assets and site/capacity utilization as well as lead safety initiatives in technical areas

Capital Planning & Execution
- Develop short term and long range capital investment plans for facility and be accountable for the planning and execution of all projects
- Responsible for the capital investment process for the site (e.g. standards, project management, capital approval, etc.)

Continuous Improvement
- Develop and support strategies that integrate Continuous Improvement methodologies into the Master Plan and Phase Progression model
- Provide leadership for the application of Continuous Improvement Pillars, tools, and training to meet business objectives – be an active member of CI Steering Committee and oversee AM and PM Pillars
- Provide site leadership for technical solutions to operational problems including systems optimization, debottlenecking, and troubleshooting

Maintenance and Information Systems
- Leverage and enhance the work system and technical skill level in the maintenance organization
- Oversight of maintenance labor, services and supplies budgets, storeroom inventory working capital
- Drive strategies for maintenance and equipment/process reliability
- Accountable for the strategy, design and implementation of control systems and manufacturing information systems

Critical Requirements:
Education:
Bachelors degree in Engineering

Related Experience:
7 years
